How we compared

Pencil wrote this comparison. Pencil is part of The Brandtech Group.

We compared public documentation from Adobe GenStudio and from Pencil, checked on 30 September 2026.

Please note: “Not found” means we searched Adobe GenStudio's public product pages, documentation, press releases and legal pages and found no description of that feature. It does not mean the feature does not exist.

AI platforms and products change often and fast! Check with each vendor before you buy. If you think we have something wrong, please let us know through trypencil.com/contact and we will review it.

Pencil drafts the thinking before the brief

Pencil adds agents before the brief. The Campaign Idea Agent brainstorms concepts and the Media Planner Agent builds media plans. In Workspaces with the GWI Consumer Insights integration connected, the Brand Strategy Agent outlines positioning based on global consumer insights. Brief Mode then structures the work accordingly..

Pencil publishes how its models perform

Both platforms offer models from several vendors. GenStudio uses models such as Firefly, Azure OpenAI and Veo, and Firefly adds partner models. Pencil runs models from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Adobe, Runway, Bria and others, and you choose which ones each workspace can use.

The difference is published evidence. AdEvals, made by Pencil, shows worked tests by use case: the model, the prompt, the criteria and a pass or fail verdict with reasons. In the interests of full transparency, we publish all the failures here, as well as the successes. No cherry-picking.

Both indemnify output, on different terms

Adobe's Firefly IP indemnity covers eligible Firefly features for enterprise customers. It excludes features powered by non-Adobe models, unless separate partner coverage applies. In Firefly Creative Production for Enterprise, that coverage extends to generally available Google and OpenAI media models, for certain copyright claims.

Pencil Pro's Output Indemnity covers third-party IP claims about outputs from the models Pencil provides. It excludes models you bring yourself, has further exclusions and is capped. Both sets of terms are public. Read them side by side before you choose.

Choose Adobe GenStudio if

  • Your creative, asset and workflow tools already run on Adobe, including AEM Assets and Workfront.
  • You want indemnity on Firefly output under Adobe's enterprise terms.
  • You want AI visibility tools that improve your own web content, through LLM Optimizer.
  • You want to activate to channels such as ChatGPT, Amazon Ads and The Trade Desk from the same tool.

Choose Pencil if

  • You want agents that draft ideas and plans before the brief.
  • You want models from several vendors, Adobe Firefly included.
  • You want published tests of how models perform on advertising tasks.
  • You want your Photoshop and After Effects work to move into the same platform.
